DANVILLE, Ky. (CentreColonels.com) – The Centre baseball team fell by a score of 8-1 to visiting Thomas More in a non-conference tilt on Monday evening at Gary Wright Field. The Colonels drop to 10-7 while the Saints boosted their record to 6-3 with the victory.

Senior first baseman Greyson Evans (Kernersville, N.C.) paced Centre at the plate going 3-for-4 with an RBI double off the right center field wall.

Freshman designated hitter Seth Hagan (Goshen, Ky.) finished 2-for-4 in the contest, while sophomore right fielder Drew Schacht (Lexington, Ky.) went 2-for-5 on the day.

Senior left fielder Alex Richardson (Mt. Washington, Ky.) was 1-for-5 with a double and a run scored for Centre.

Sophomore Sam Shelley (Lexington, Ky.) was tagged with the loss for the Colonels, allowing six runs (five earned) on eight hits with four strikeouts in four innings of work.

Sophomore Aaryn Chandler (St. John, Ind.) and senior Jordan Short (Neon, Ky.) combined for three scoreless innings of relief for Centre.

Jacob Whitford went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI and a run scored to lead the Thomas More offense.

Jayson Essell picked up the win, tossing seven innings and allowing one run on seven hits with a pair of strikeouts and a walk.  

The Colonels are back in action this Wednesday hosting Spalding at 6 p.m. ET at Gary Wright Field.
