DANVILLE, Ky. (CentreColonels.com) – Timely hitting a strong performance out the of Colonel bullpen led the Centre baseball team to a 3-2 non-conference victory over visiting Maryville (Tenn.) on Wednesday evening at Gary Wright Field. The Colonels boost their record to 13-8 with the win while the Scots fall to 15-15.
Centre made each of its four base hits count, while junior Aaron Scilley (Maysville, Ky.), sophomore Nick Hoffman (Louisville, Ky.), senior Jordan Short (Neon, Ky.) and sophomore Drew Schacht (Lexington, Ky.) combined for 5 1/3 scoreless and hitless frames of relief for the Colonels, fanning four batters with no walks to close out the win.
Centre plated two runs in the bottom of the third inning when freshman center fielder Will Kirk (Morgantown, N.C.) hit an RBI single to center field before later scoring on a sacrifice fly by sophomore designated hitter Mason Falbo (Mississauga, Ontario).
Maryville evened the contest at 2-2 in the top of the fourth frame with a pair of RBI groundouts for the Scots.
In the bottom of the sixth frame, a single by freshman third baseman Matt LaPoint (Freeport, Maine) drove in senior first baseman Greyson Evans (Kernersville, N.C.) with a single to right field to put the Colonels ahead 3-2.
The Centre bullpen would shut the door on the Scots, as Maryville did not have a base runner for the final five innings of play.

Kirk went 1-for-3 with an RBI, a run scored and a walk for Centre, while LaPoint was 1-for-3 with an RBI and walk.
