@CentreBaseball Drops Series Finale to Hendrix

DANVILLE, Ky. (CentreColonels.com) – The Centre baseball team erased a 6-1 deficit to take a lead over visiting Hendrix, but a late Warriors push gave them a 10-7 triumph over the Colonels on Sunday afternoon at Gary Wright Field.

Centre falls to 14-15 on the season and 4-11 in Southern Athletic Association (SAA) play while Hendrix moved to 14-17 overall and 7-7 in the conference with the three-game series sweep.

With the Warriors holding a 4-0 lead, the Colonels got on the board in the fourth inning when senior designated hitter Trevor Brewer (Bowling Green, Ky.) scored on a Hendrix error.

Hendrix plated two runs in the top of the sixth inning to extend its lead to 6-1 before Centre answered with three runs in the home half of the frame.

Sophomore right fielder Drew Schacht (Lexington, Ky.) used a bunt single to lead off the inning and later scored on a Warriors error to get things rolling for the Colonels. Freshman shortstop Parker Selin (Lexington, Ky.) connected on an RBI double to left field followed by a run-scoring single by sophomore catcher Cameron Duggins (Knoxville, Tenn.) which cut the Warriors' advantage to 6-4.

In the seventh inning, the Centre offense picked up where it left off in the sixth, as sophomore Mason Falbo (Mississauga, Ontario) scored Schacht on a fielder's choice before another RBI single by Duggins to knot the game at 6-6. Later in the stanza, sophomore third baseman Brahm Whittinghill (Sellersburg, Ind.) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, giving the Colonels their first lead of the day at 7-6.

After an eighth-inning Matt Lillard double tied things up at 7-7 for Hendrix, a three-run home run over the right field wall by Jorge Leon in the ninth put the Warriors on top 10-7, a lead they would hold onto for the remainder of the game.

Duggins went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI and a walk for Centre, while Shacht was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a walk.

Leon paced Hendrix going 4-for-6 with three RBI and a two runs.

Sophomore pitcher Sam Shelley (Lexington, Ky.) was tagged with the loss for Centre, allowing three runs on four hits in 1 1/3 innings of work.

Hayden Seay picked up the win for the Warriors, pitching two innings of scoreless relief and allowing one hit.

The Colonels return to action on Tuesday hosting Berea in a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 5pm ET at Gary Wright Field with game two to follow.
