DANVILLE, Ky. (CentreColonels.com) – The Centre baseball team dropped a 4-1 decision to visiting Sewanee in the first game of a three-game Southern Athletic Association (SAA) series on Friday at Gary Wright Field.

The Colonels move to 15-16 overall and 4-12 in SAA play, while the Tigers improve to 17-17 on the season with a 7-8 mark in the conference.

All four of Sewanee's runs came in the top of the fourth inning, as the Tigers used four base-hits highlighted by a two-run single by Derek Hullings to gain a 4-0 advantage.

Centre got on the board in the home half of the eighth when senior first baseman Greyson Evans (Kernersville, N.C.) plated senior left fielder Alex Richardson (Mt. Washington, Ky.) on a groundout.

Trailing 4-1 in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Colonels loaded the bases with one out in the frame on a walk by senior second baseman Andrew Olson (Louisville, Ky.), a single by freshman center fielder Will Kirk (Morgantown, N.C.) and another base on balls by sophomore right fielder Drew Schacht (Lexington, Ky.).

Unfortunately for Centre following a Sewanee pitching change, Lucas DeSantis induced a pair of Colonel pop outs to close out the 4-1 conference victory for the Tigers.

Sophomore designated hitter Mason Falbo (Mississauga, Ontario) paced Centre at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with a double.

Senior southpaw Trevor Brewer (Bowling Green, Ky.) was tagged with the loss (3-3), allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits in 4 1/3 innings of work.

Drew Mancuso picked up the win (6-3) for Sewanee, scattering 10 hits across eight innings of work, allowing one run with eight strikeouts and a walk.

The Colonels and Tigers square off in a conference twinbill on Saturday beginning at 1pm ET at Gary Wright Field.
