Three @CentreBaseball Players Named to All-SAA Teams
ATLANTA (CentreColonels.com) - The Southern Athletic Association (SAA) released its postseason awards and all-conference squads for the 2017 baseball season today with three players from Centre garnering All-SAA honors. Senior Trevor Brewer (Bowling Green, Ky.) and sophomores Drew Schacht (Lexington, Ky.) as well as Nick Hoffman (Louisville, Ky.) were selected to the All-SAA Second Team for the Colonels.
This marks Schacht's second All-SAA nod in as many seasons, as he was named the SAA Newcomer of the Year and First Team All-SAA last season. Schacht led the Colonels in nearly every statistical category, hitting .392 for the year as his batting average hovered near the .400 mark for the entire season. Schacht's 49 hits were a team-high, as were his 40 walks on the year, which rank second in Division III.
He also finished with a team high 22 stolen bases. In addition, Schacht paces the SAA and ranks 17th in the country with a .539 on-base percentage while sitting second in the league and 17th in the nation with 22 stolen bases on the year.
Schacht hit .426 with a .551 on-base percentage in conference action this season. He tallied 18 mulit-hit games highlighted by a 5-for-5 showing at Oglethorpe.
Brewer went 3-4 on the year for Centre and led the Colonels' rotation with a 3.98 ERA during his senior campaign. Brewer picked up a shutout win for the Colonels over Berry and also earned a win in Centre's first ever sweep of Millsaps in program history. Brewer paces the team with 54.1 innings pitched on the year.
Hoffman led the Centre pitching staff with 44 strikeouts, including fanning ten batters against Sewanee on Apr. 15, the highest single-game total for a Centre pitcher this year. Hoffman was named SAA Pitcher of the Week after throwing seven scoreless innings in the Colonels' 3-0 win over fourth-ranked Birmingham Southern, tallying seven strikeouts and limiting the high-powered Panthers offense to just four hits on the day.
Centre opens the 2017 SAA Tournament Friday evening at third-ranked BSC at 4:30pm CT at Striplin Field.
