Colonels finish 16th in final D3football.com Poll, 18th in AFCA

After a 9-2 season and the program's first NCAA Division III Tournament win, the Centre football team finished at No. 16 in the final D3football.com Poll and No. 18 in the season's final American Football Coaches Association Poll, both of which were released Monday.

Centre finished the regular season with an 8-1 record overall and a 5-1 mark in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. The Colonels made the jump to 16th after being ranked 25th in the final D3football.com Poll of the regular season, and moved to 18th after being the top team among the others receiving votes in the last regular season AFCA poll.

Though the Colonels were second in the conference, they earned an at-large playoff bid which was the school's first in the current Division III format and first postseason bid since facing Texas A&M in the 1921 Dixie Classic.

In the playoffs, Centre defeated Hampden-Sydney 51-41 in the first round before falling 30-10 at No. 2 Mount Union. After beating Centre, Mount Union went on to meet Wisconsin-Whitewater in the national championship for the seventh straight year with Whitewater winning 13-10.
