Colonels Roll to 9-1 Triumph over Wooster

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (CentreColonels.com) – The Centre field hockey team closed the weekend with a 9-1 victory over Wooster on Sunday afternoon at Wittenberg to improve to 2-0 on the season. The Colonels outscored their opponents 16-2 in the first two contests of the 2016 campaign after a 7-1 win over Kenyon on Saturday.
Centre's nine goals were the most since defeating Bethany 10-0 on Sept. 22, 2012.
Barker also had an assist for Centre, finishing with a combined 12 points in the first two games of the season.
The Colonels jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the first 10 minutes of the game, including two goals by Barker and scores by Flocken and freshman midfielder Caroline Brotzge (Louisville, Ky.), the first of her career.
Wooster's Leah Prescott broke the shut out in the 26th minute, before senior forward Alicia Kalbfleisch (Louisville, Ky.) extended the Centre lead to 5-1 with a goal late in the half.
The Colonels would score four unanswered goals in the second half, as Barker and Flocken each found the back of the cage again in addition to scores by senior defender Kathryn Hardesty (Louisville, Ky.) and junior midfielder Brooklyn Bell (Louisville, Ky.).
Hardesty, Flocken, Barker and senior forward Kelsey Gordon (Louisville, Ky.) each recorded assists in the victory.
Centre outshot the Fighting Scots 24-5 in the win and held a 12-7 advantage in penalty corners.
The Colonels open the home portion of the 2016 schedule on Friday, Sept. 9 against Christopher Newport at 7 p.m.
