Colonels Post 7-0 Shutout SAA Victory over Ferrum

DANVILLE, Ky. (CentreColonels.com) – The Centre field hockey team extended its winning streak to four games with a 7-0 triumph over visiting Ferrum on Sunday afternoon in Southern Athletic Association (SAA) action at the South Campus Field.
The Colonels improved to 6-3 overall and 2-1 in SAA play, while the Panthers dropped to 1-6 and 1-1, respectively.
Junior forward Hayley Barker (Louisville, Ky.) scored a game-high three goals for her third hat trick of the 2016 campaign to lead Centre.
Sophomore forward Emily Schank (Louisville, Ky.) and senior forward Cole Jordan (Louisville, Ky.) each chipped in a goal and an assist for the Colonels, while senior midfielder Ceci Vollbrecht (Vienna, Va.) and senior forward Megan Flocken (Dexter, Mich.) each netted a goal for Centre.
Freshman midfielder Caroline Brotzge (Louisville, Ky.), senior forward Alicia Kalbfleisch (Louisville, Ky.), sophomore midfielder Peyton Baer (Asheville, N.C.) and junior midfielder Mary Andrews (St. Louis, Mo.) all contributed an assist in the win.
Centre got on the board with Barker's first goal of the day just under three minutes into the contest. Jordan found the back of the cage in the 14th minute, followed by a quick goal by Flocken just 30 seconds later.
Vollbrecht's goal in the 30th minute pushed the Centre lead to 4-0 at the half.
Barker scored consecutive goals to open the second stanza, followed by Schank's goal in the 61st minute of play.
The Colonels defensive unit did not allow Ferrum to attempt a shot, as Centre outshot the Panthers 31-0. The Colonels also held a 14-1 advantage in penalty corners.
Ferrum goaltender Courtney Gosslin made 17 saves in the victory.
