@CentreFH Wins Program Record 11th Straight Game with 4-1 Victory at Transylvania

LEXINGTON, Ky. (CentreColonels.com) – The Centre field hockey team captured its program-record 11th consecutive victory with a 4-1 triumph at Transylvania in the regular season finale on Monday night at Pat Deacon Stadium.

The Colonels cap the 2016 regular season with a 13-3 overall record and a 4-1 ledger in Southern Athletic Association (SAA) action, while the Pioneers drop to 5-11 and 1-4, respectively.

Centre's 11 wins in a row are the most since the Colonels earned 10 straight victories to start the 2007 campaign.

Senior defender Nicole DeHerde (Hope, N.J.) gave Centre a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute of action following the penalty corner by senior forward Kelsey Gordon (Louisville, Ky.).

Ten minutes into the second half, Transylvania evened the score at 1-1 with a goal by Jessie Wilson off the assist by Zoe Jessie.

Junior forward Hayley Barker (Louisville, Ky.) responded with three unanswered goals of her own to put the Colonels on top 4-1. Barker's first two scores were unassisted, with the third goal coming off the dish by sophomore forward Emily Schank (Louisville, Ky.). Barker leads the SAA in points (40) and goals (18) on the season. Schank ranks fifth in the league with five assists on the year.  

Centre came out firing in the second period, outshooting the Pioneers 16-3. For the game, the Colonels held a 23-9 shooting edge.

Senior goalkeeper Kirby Roberts (Louisville, Ky.) posted five saves in the cage for Centre.

The Colonels open the SAA Tournament on Saturday in Memphis, Tenn. with a semifinal matchup against the winner of the Ferrum-Transylvania matchup on Friday. Game time for Saturday's match has not yet been announced.
