Field hockey falls in season opener to Kenyon, 2-1

DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre College field hockey couldn't overcome an early deficit Saturday, falling 2-1 to visiting Kenyon in the season opener at South Campus Field.

The Ladies (2-0) netted their first goal less than five minutes into the contest, getting the early score from Lynne Cullen.

Cullen then played a role in Kenyon's second goal, assisting teammate Zoe Chrissos' near the midway point of the half to double the Ladies' lead.

Centre (0-1) was held scoreless for much of the first half, until an aerial entry pass from sophomore Caroline Brotzge (Louisville, Ky.) set up junior Emily Schank (Louisville, Ky.).

Schank buried her first goal of the season off the feed, bringing the Colonels within 2-1 near the three-minute mark.

Both sides were held without a goal in the second frame. Centre managed to force four penalty corners throughout the half, but wasn't able to slot anything past Kenyon keeper Sarah Speroff.

Sophomore goalie Kristen Mulcahy (Cedarburg, Wis.) turned away four shots in the loss.

Centre returns to action tomorrow (Sunday) for a 12 p.m. ET meeting against Denison. The Big Red (1-0) defeated Transylvania 2-0 Saturday afternoon.
