Centre field hockey blanks Concordia for fourth straight win

MEQUON, Wis. – Centre field hockey won its fourth consecutive contest Saturday afternoon, shutting out Concordia (Wis.), 4-0, at Tomasini Stadium.

The Colonels advance to 4-1 overall, handing the Falcons their first loss and a 2-1 record.

Following her hat trick performance at Transy this past week, senior Hayley Barker (Louisville, Ky.) netted two goals to lead the offensive charge.

Barker opened the scoring with an unassisted goal just over 20 minutes into the competition.

Sophomore Olivia Carter (Louisville, Ky.) scored her first career goal off a rebound just minutes later, giving the guests a 2-0 edge heading into the half.

Barker was the first to score in the second period, as well, getting a helper from sophomore Savannah Elpers (Louisville, Ky.). It marked Elpers' second assist of the season.

Senior Brooklyn Bell (Louisville, Ky.) put the finishing touches on the win with her fourth goal of the season, coming in the 65th minute off of Peyton Baer's (Asheville, N.C.) assist.

Sophomore keeper Kristen Mulcahy (Cedarburg, Wis.) improved to 4-1 in-goal for the campaign, and dropped her goals-against average to 1.20 with her second shutout. She finished with five saves in Saturday's victory.

"I'm proud of this team and the current streak we are on," Head Coach Jenelle Anthony said. "We still have some work to do, but it's great to come away with two wins this week."

Centre's road stretch continues next Saturday with a trip to face Ferrum at 10 a.m. in the Southern Athletic Association opener.
