DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre field hockey ran away from Eastern Mennonite amid chilly, rainy conditions at South Campus Field Monday evening, 4-1.
The Colonels improve to 11-1, while the Royals fall to 5-11 with the loss.
The visiting Royals struck first in the 14th minute, as leading scorer Emily Augsburger capitalized on a penalty stroke to make it 1-0.
Reigning SAA Offensive Player of the Week, Brooklyn Bell (Louisville, Ky.), leveled the match with her team-leading 13th goal of the season in the 21st minute. Junior Emily Schank (Louisville, Ky.) provided the assist from the left wing.
Centre would benefit from a penalty stroke of its own in the 25th minute, as senior Natascha Loeb (Charlotte, N.C.) slotted home what would become the game-winning goal.
Just 30 seconds later the Colonels added to their lead when freshman Sarah Biggs (Louisville, Ky.) netted her sixth score of the season, sneaking the ball in the left side of the goal off a feed from sophomore Savannah Elpers (Louisville, Ky.).
Ten minutes passed in the second period before the Colonels scored again, this time off the stick of Schank for her fifth goal of the season.
Centre goalie Kristen Mulcahy (Cedarburg, Wis.) finished with three saves, as the Colonel defense surrendered one or fewer goals for the fourth game in a row. Senior Christine Semple (Louisville, Ky.) helped that effort with a defensive save in the first half.
Centre finishes the regular season Saturday, Oct. 28, hosting conference-foe Sewanee at South Campus Field at 12 p.m. ET. The Colonels will also be celebrating Senior Day prior to the start of the game.
