Centre Men's Basketball to Play Exhibition Contest at Kentucky

DANVILLE, Kentucky (CentreColonels.com) – The Centre men's basketball team will play an exhibition contest at Kentucky in 2017-18, taking on the host Wildcats in Lexington on Friday, Nov. 3 at Rupp Arena, head coach Greg Mason announced on Thursday.

"What an amazing opportunity for us to represent Centre College and play against the greatest tradition in all of college basketball," Mason said. "We cannot thank Coach Calipari, DeWayne Peevy and Kentucky Basketball enough for agreeing to this exhibition. November 3rd will be a fun night for our players, our staff, our alumni, and our fans. We are very appreciative of this opportunity."

In 2017-18, Mason welcomes back four starters from a team that finished the 2016-17 season with a 14-11 record, including junior Tucker Sine (Bowling Green, Ky. / Bowling Green), who averaged 14.7 points per game. Perry Ayers (Bowling Green, Ky. / Bowling Green) returns after earning Southern Athletic Association Newcomer of the Year honors as a freshman.

Head coach John Calipari's UK team posted a 32-6 record in 2016-17, advancing to the Elite Eight. The Wildcats had three players selected in the first 14 picks of the 2017 NBA Draft.

In 44 all-time official games between the two teams, Kentucky holds a 25-19 record in the series. The two teams first met on Jan. 19, 1906, with Kentucky winning 15-14. Centre swept three contests in 1910, including an 87-17 victory on Jan. 28, which remains the largest defeat in UK history.

The last meeting was nearly 89 years ago, when UK defeated the Colonels 47-11 in Lexington on Feb. 13, 1929. The last time the Colonels defeated the Wildcats was a 17-10 victory in Danville on Feb. 14, 1923.

Cawood Ledford '49 was inducted into the Centre Athletics Hall of Fame in 2006. Ledford served as the radio play-by-play announcer for the Wildcats from 1953-92 and is also a UK Athletics Hall of Famer.

Will Barton is a member of the men's basketball staff at Kentucky, serving as the Director of Basketball Administration. Barton played for Centre in 2008-09, when the Colonels went 23-5 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.

More details related to the contest will be announced on CentreColonels.com at a later date, including game time and ticket information.
