Centre Men Tied for Fifth after Sunday at Gordin Classic
DELAWARE, Ohio (CentreColonels.com) – The 26th annual Gordin Classic golf tournament features 12 of the top teams in all of Division III. On Sunday, the first 36 holes of the tournament were played and the Centre men's golf team currently sits in a tie for fifth place.
The Colonels shot a combined team score of 295 at Delaware C.C., but rebounded in their second 18 holes of the day to post a team score of 292 and move from a tie for seventh into a tie for fifth with Transylvania and Methodist with a two-round score of 587. The Colonels sit within six shots of Rhodes seven shots of third place and host school Ohio Wesleyan. Huntingdon leads the tournament after the first 36 holes. The Colonels lead Transylvania and Methodist by six shots.
Individually, the low man for the Colonels after the first 36 holes was senior Carson Riley (Hendersonville, Tenn.). Riley had four birdies in both of his rounds on Sunday and only three combined bogeys on the par 71 course, shooting 68 and 69 to sit in third place overall with a two-round score of 137.
Senior Dakota Jarman (Danville, Ky.) finished with rounds of 75 and 73 to tie for 25th place overall with a score of 148. Jarman finished with seven birdies on the day and played his final nine holes at even par.
Sophomore Zach Mattingly (Louisville, Ky.) had six birdies, including four in his final 18 holes to post scores of 76 and 73 to finish the day with a score of 149. His twin brother Jake Mattingly (Louisville, Ky.) fired a pair of rounds of 77 to finish with a two-round score of 154. The Mattingly twins were the only Centre players to record birdies on the par 4 11th hole on Sunday.
