@CentreGolf in First Place Through First Round of Jim English Invite
DANVILLE, Ky. (CentreColonels.com) – The Centre men's golf team owns the top spot in the standings after the first day of the Jim English Invitational on Saturday at Danville Country Club. The Colonels fired a 301 (+1), pacing Ohio Wesleyan in second with a 302 (+14).
DePauw sits in third place with a 309 (+21) followed by the Colonels "B" team in fourth with a 310 (+22) and Oakland City fifth with a 311 (+23).
Seniors Dakota Jarman (Danville, Ky.) and Andrew Horn (Franklin, Tenn.) are tied for second place at the event with scores of 73 (+1) on Saturday. Sewanee's Nick Powell sits atop the leaderboard with a one-under score of 71 though the first 18 holes.
Jarman tallied a team-high five birdies in the round, including three on the front nine. Horn finished with four birdies on the day, with two on the front nine and two more on the back.
Senior Carson Riley (Hendersonville, Tenn.) is tied for 12th after day one with a 76 (+4) in the first round. He posted a pair of birdies in the round, but a triple-bogey on the par-four 10th hindered the All-American's score.
Sophomore Zach Mattingly (Louisville, Ky.) and senior Connor McCarthy (Gallatin, Tenn.) each fired scores of 76 (+4) for the Centre "B" team, good for a tie for 12th. Mattingly tallied three birdies, while McCarthy finished with a birdie and 12 pars on the day.
Sophomore Jake Mattingly (Louisville, Ky.) owns a score of 79 (+7) good for a tie for 22nd place.
Junior Hall Rupert (Powells Point, N.C.) (79, +7) recorded 12 pars, good for a tie for second-most in the field.
