@CentreGolf in Ninth after Day 1 at Callaway Gardens Collegiate
PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga. (CentreColonels.com) – The Centre men's golf team got the spring portion of the 2016-17 schedule underway from Callaway Gardens G.C. as they competed in the first of two days of play at the Callaway Gardens Collegiate. Halfway through the tournament the Colonels sit in ninth place in an extremely close and competitive field.
Centre shot a combined team score of 304 on Monday to sit directly in the middle of the 18-team leaderboard in ninth place. The Colonels are one shot back of Methodist, two back of Greensboro, three back of both Christopher Newport and Washington & Lee and six shots back of third place. Centre finished one shot ahead of Oglethorpe.
Individually, the low man for the Colonels was senior Dakota Jarman (Danville, Ky.), who finished with a round of 73 to tie for seventh overall. Jarman played the back nine at even par with birdies on the fifth and 13th holes.
Junior Andrew McKinney (Danville, Ky.) returned to action from a fall semester abroad and posted a score of 74 that landed him in the top 15 overall, including going two under par for his final ten holes after a shaky start.
Sophomore Jake Mattingly (Louisville, Ky.) posted a score of 78 and was the only Centre player to record a birdie on the par 4 tenth hole to open play on Monday.
Junior Hall Rupert (Powells Point, N.C.) and senior Carson Riley (Hendersonville, Tenn.) each posted rounds of 79 to round out the scoring for Centre. Rupert played his final 12 holes at even par with a pair of birdies, while Riley tied McKinney with a team high three birdies for the opening round.
The Callaway Gardens Collegiate will wrap up on Tuesday. Golfstat live scoring for the event can be found HERE as well as on the men's golf schedule page.
