PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga. (CentreColonels.com) - The first tournament of the spring schedule wrapped up earlier this afternoon for the Centre men's golf team and the Colonels improved on their Monday score to move into eighth place at the Callaway Gardens Collegiate.

Centre finished Tuesday with a combined team score of 302, improving from their Monday round of 306 to move into eighth overall, two shots ahead of Wittenberg. The Colonels finished one shot back of Greensboro, three back of Washington & Lee and five back of both Huntingdon and Sewanee. Emory won the 2017 Callaway Gardens Collegiate with a two-day team score of 596.

Individually, the low scorer for the Colonels was junior Hall Rupert (Powells Point, N.C.), who finished with a score of 74, shaking off a slow start to go 2-under over his final 11 holes.

Senior Dakota Jarman (Danville, Ky.) was Centre's low man for the tournament. Jarman posted a score of 75 on Tuesday, including birdies on two of his last three holes to tie for tenth place overall with a two-day score of 148.

Sophomore Jake Mattingly (Louisville, Ky.) posted a score of 76 on Tuesday. Mattingly recorded a team high four birdies for the day.

Junior Andrew McKinney (Danville, Ky.) and senior Carson Riley (Hendersonville, Tenn.) each posted rounds of 77 to round out Centre's Tuesday totals. McKinney landed just outside the top 20 overall for the tournament, finishing in a tie for 21st.

The Colonels will be back in action on Mar. 17-19 as they head back to Georgia to take part in one of the premier golf tournaments of the spring, the Jekyll Island Collegiate.
