@CentreGolf Shoots 309 on Day 2 of Jekyll Island Collegiate
JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. (CentreColonels.com) – After a rough opening round at the Jekyll Island Collegiate, the Centre men's golf team improved on their Friday score with a combined team score of 309 to land in 25th place.
The Colonels finished one shot back of Kenyon and that one shot proved to be the difference as Centre missed the cut for the Sunday round.
Individually, junior Andrew McKinney (Danville, Ky.) was the low man for the Colonels on Saturday. McKinney shot a round of 76 to improve on his Friday score by eight shots, including three birdies and one-over back nine.
Senior Dakota Jarman (Danville, Ky.) and junior Hall Rupert (Powells Point, N.C.) each posted scores of 77 for the Colonels on Saturday. It was the second 77 in a row for Jarman, who is Centre's overall leader for the tournament through 36 holes. Jarman was also two under par on par 5s for his Saturday round. Rupert started and finished strong, recording pars on his first six and final five holes.
Senior Carson Riley (Hendersonville, Tenn.), who was Centre's low man on Friday, finished Saturday with a round of 79. Sophomore Jake Mattingly (Louisville, Ky.) posted a score of 82 to round out Centre's scores on the second day of play. Mattingly overcame a rough start with a solid back nine with seven pars.
The next tournament for the Colonels will be the Grandover Division III Match Play Championship in Greensboro, N.C. on Apr. 2-3. It will be the final tournament for Centre before the Southern Athletic Association Championships.
