Colonels finish ninth at Rhodes Invite
TUNICA, Miss. – The final round of the Rhodes Fall Collegiate Classic is in the books from Tunica National G.C. and the Centre men's golf team moved up the leaderboard on the last day, climbing three spots to a ninth place finish.
Centre fired a Monday score of 297 to bring the team combined score to 895 through 54 holes. The Colonels joined Texas-Tyler as the only teams in the 19-team field to improve in each of their rounds for the tournament. Centre climbed over DePauw and Ohio Wesleyan in the process and finished five shots back of Maryville. Emory won the tournament by seven strokes over Texas-Tyler.
Individually, the Colonels had a three-way tie for the top performance on Monday. Seniors Andrew McKinney (Danville, Ky.) and Hall Rupert (Powells Point, Ky.) along with junior Hans Stromberg (Lexington, Ky.) all led the way for Centre with scores of 74. McKinney played his final nine holes at three under par to finish at even par for the tournament and tie for tenth place overall.
Rupert played solid golf throughout his Monday round, recording pars on his first seven holes. Stromberg offset bogeys on the back nine with three birdies, including two in a row on the par 5 third hole and the par 3 fourth hole.
Junior Will Hellman (Louisville, Ky.) posted a score of 75 on Monday, joining teammates Rupert and Stromberg with a birdie on the third hole as the Colonels shot three under par as a team on that hole for the final round.
Senior Paxton Duff (Louisville, Ky.) began and ended his round with double bogeys, but sandwiched four birdies in between those holes and finished with a score of 77.
The Colonels will have the next two weekends off before returning to action for the Oglethorpe Fall Invitational at Royal Lakes G.C. on Oct. 7.
