Men's golf opens play at Emory Invite

STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. - The Centre men's golf team wrapped up play for the first 18 holes at the Discover Dekalb Emory Invite at Smoke Rise C.C. With 18 holes left to play, the Colonels find themselves in 14th place.

Centre posted a combined team score of 312 on Saturday to finish one shot ahead of Brevard. Centre currently is within striking distance of several Southern Athletic Association foes, as they are three shots back of Birmingham Southern, four back of Berry and five back of Oglethorpe.

Individually, the low man of the day for the Colonels was junior Zach Mattingly (Louisville, Ky.), who posted a score of 73 to fall just inside the individual top 20 on the leaderboard. Mattingly did a good job of keeping errors to a minimum, recording just one bogey on his back nine.

Senior Hall Rupert (Powells Point, N.C.) turned in a score of 74 on Saturday. Rupert got off to a hot start for Centre, including firing three consecutive birdies on the 12th, 13th and 14th holes. Junior Hans Stromberg (Lexington, Ky.) posted a score of 80, including birdies on the eighth, 13th and 17th holes.

Junior Jake Mattingly (Louisville, Ky.) and senior Andrew McKinney (Danville, Ky.) rounded out the Saturday totals for the Colonels with respective scores of 85 and 87.

The Discover Dekalb Emory Invite will finish up its final round of play on Sunday afternoon.
