Colonels finish 15th at Emory Invite
STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. - The Centre men's golf team wrapped up play at the Discover Dekalb Emory Invitational at Smoke Rise C.C., where they shot a combined team score of 308 for the last 18 holes to finish in 15th place.
The Colonels' score of 308 on Sunday put them at a two-day team score of 320 after shooting 312 on Saturday. Host school Emory won the tournament, with Huntingdon finishing second.
Individually, the low man of the day for Centre was junior Jake Mattingly (Louisville, Ky.), who posted a score of 73 on Sunday. Mattingly closed out his round strongly, going one under par for his final six holes of play.
Senior Andrew McKinney (Danville, Ky.) finished with a score of 77 on Sunday. Like Mattingly, McKinney played his best golf at the end of his round with a birdie on the par 3 seventh hole as he went one under par for the last four holes.
Junior Zach Mattingly (Louisville, Ky.) and senior Hall Rupert (Powells Point, N.C.) each fired rounds of 79, with Mattingly going two over par for his front nine and Rupert recording birdies on the par 5 16th and par 4 second holes. Junior Hans Stromberg (Lexington, Ky.) finished off the Colonels' Sunday totals with a round of 80.
The Colonels will have the next week off from competition, but will return the week after for the Southern Athletic Association Championships, beginning on Apr. 20.
