Marfise Named IMLCA All-Region
AVON, Conn. (CentreColonels.com) – The Intercollegiate Men's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IMLCA) has announced its NCAA Division III All-Region Teams and Centre graduated senior Jake Marfise (Tampa, Fla. / Berkeley Prep) earned Second Team All-South Region honors for the Colonels.
Marfise collects the All-Region accolade after being named the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Defensive Player of the Year along with being a First Team All-SAA selection.
In addition to his impact on the field, Marfise also represented Centre on the prestigious Sigma Alpha Alpha society, which celebrates the top student-athletes' academic accomplishments on top of their respective athletic achievements.
Mafise started all 14 games for the Colonels as a senior in 2017, buoying the Centre defense and recording 38 ground balls to go with a team-high 29 forced turnovers.
He forced a career-high six turnovers for the Colonels against Birmingham-Southern on April 2.
Marfise also entered the offensive stat column with an assist in the Colonels' senior day triumph over Oglethorpe.
Marfise is not the only Centre men's lacrosse player to garner a national postseason award, as junior goalkeeper Sam Long (Cincinnati, Ohio / Mariemont) was named a USILA/Nike All-American and senior long stick midfielder Mason Paas (Louisville, Ky. / Christian Academy) earned USILA/Nike Scholar All-American honors.
