Colonels Blank Georgetown (Ky.) 4-0 in Inaugural Centre College Alumni Classic

DANVILLE, Ky. (CentreColonels.com) – The Centre men's soccer team opened the 2016 season with a 4-0 shutout triumph over visiting Georgetown (Ky.) in the first ever Centre College Alumni Classic on Thursday night at Hillside Field. The event, which includes the Colonels, Tigers, Spalding and Austin, features four Centre alumni head coaches.

Centre senior midfielder Phil Shehan (Orlando, Fla.) found the back of the net with a laser from 30 yards out to put the Colonels ahead 1-0 just four minutes into the game.

Senior forward Jacob Winkler (Danville, Ky.) beat Georgetown goalkeeper and fellow Danville native Matthew Oster on a penalty kick at the 36-minute mark to push the Centre lead to 2-0.

In the second half, senior forward Christian Gateskill (Danville, Ky.) netted another penalty kick for the Colonels, extending their lead to 3-0 with 25 minutes showing on the clock.

Sophomore forward Xavier Tomlin (Peoria, Ariz.) found junior forward Brad Nordin (Paintsville, Ky.) for his first career goal in the 71st minute to seal the 4-0 triumph for Centre.

Sophomore goalkeeper Bailey Spade (Frankfort, Ky.) tallied three saves in the win for the Colonels.

Centre outshot the Tigers 14-9 in the victory.

The Colonels will look to make it two in a row tomorrow night facing off with Austin at 8 p.m. at Hillside Field. The Kangaroos defeated Spalding 1-0 on Thursday evening.
