Colonels Blank Thomas More 3-0 to Win 27th Annual Bob Allen Nissan Classic

DANVILLE, Ky. (CentreColonels.com) – The Centre men's soccer team earned a 3-0 shutout victory over visiting Thomas More in the final game of the 27th Annual Bob Allen Nissan Classic on Saturday night at Hillside Field. With the win, the Colonels improved to 4-0-0 on the season for the first time since the 2005 campaign.

Centre also posted its third shutout triumph of the season and the Colonels captured their second consecutive Bob Allen Nissan Classic title.

Thomas More suffered its first loss of the season, moving to 3-1-0 on the year.

Saturday marked the first victory for Centre over the Saints since October 3, 2004, when the Colonels defeated Thomas More 1-0.

Centre junior midfielder John Herd (Colorado Springs, Colo.) got the Colonels on the board in the 20th minute of action with a goal off a rebound after a shot by sophomore midfielder Jacob Haddad (Brentwood, Tenn.).

Early in the second half, Haddad found the back of the net off a throw-in by senior forward Christian Gateskill (Danville, Ky.) to push the Centre lead to 2-0.

Later in the half, Brad Nordin (Paintsville, Ky.) extended the Colonels' advantage to 3-0 off the double-assist by sophomore goalkeeper Bailey Spade (Frankfort, Ky.) and junior defender Ian Williams (Versailles, Ky.) in the 73rd minute.

Centre dominated the shot column in the victory, outshooting the Saints 18-4 on the night.

The Colonels also held a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks.

In addition to his assist, Spade made a pair of saves in his third shutout win of the season.

Centre returns to action next Saturday, Sept. 17 at DePauw at 2 p.m. ET.
