MEMPHIS, Tenn. (CentreColonels.com) – Rhodes' Mark Robinson netted the game-winning goal with 59 seconds showing on the game clock to lift the host Lynx to a 2-1 triumph over the Centre men's soccer team on Sunday afternoon at the Rhodes Soccer Field.
The Colonels move to 9-5 overall and 3-3 in Southern Athletic Association (SAA) action with the loss, while Rhodes improves to 7-7-1 on the season and 3-3 in the conference.
Following a scoreless first half, Bowen Burdette put the Lynx on top with a goal in the 60th minute, before junior midfielder Brandon Schweder (Lexington, Ky.) scored the equalizer off the assist by sophomore midfielder Jacob Haddad (Brentwood, Tenn.) just over eight minutes later. The score marked Schweder's second goal of the season and Haddad's first assist.
It was not until the 90th minute of play until Robinson's go-ahead goal off the assist by William Mitchell sealed the conference victory for Rhodes.
The Colonels held a 16-14 shooting edge, including an 11-6 margin in the second half. Centre also held a 7-6 advantage in corner kicks, including a 4-0 edge in the second stanza.
Four of the Colonels' five losses this season have come by just one goal.
Centre returns home to face Berea in the season's final non-conference matchup on Thursday night at 7 p.m. ET at Hillside Field.
The game also marks the Colonels' final home contest in the regular season.
Centre closes the 2016 regular season on the road at Sewanee next Saturday at 4:30 p.m. CT.
