@CentreSoccer Caps Regular Season with 2-0 Shutout Win at Sewanee

SEWANEE, Tenn. (CentreColonels.com) – The Centre men's soccer team posted its seventh shutout win of the season by way of a 2-0 victory over host Sewanee in the regular season finale on Saturday afternoon at Puett Field.
The Colonels boost their record to 11-5 overall and 4-3 in Southern Athletic Association (SAA) action, while the Tigers move to 7-9-2 on the season and 2-5-2 in conference play.
With the win, Centre earned the fourth seed for the upcoming SAA Tournament. The Colonels will host an SAA Quarterfinal matchup next Saturday, Oct. 22 against Birmingham Southern at Hillside Field.
Senior midfielder Phil Shehan (Orlando, Fla.) put Centre on top in the 19th minute of play, blasting a goal from 25-yards out to give the Colonels a 1-0 lead. Shehan is now tied for the SAA-lead with nine goals on the season.
In the second half, junior defender Caleb Vogel's (Shelbyville, Ky.) header to the back of the net off the assist by Shehan pushed the Centre advantage to 2-0 in the 76th minute of action. It marked Vogel's second goal in as many games.
The Colonels outshot the Tigers 13-7 in the win and held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Shehan finished with a game-high four shots, including three on goal, while sophomore midfielder Jacob Haddad (Brentwood, Tenn.) had three shots in the contest. Shehan has now scored in five of the last six games for Centre.
Sophomore goaltender Bailey Spade (Frankfort, Ky.) made three saves for the Colonels.
Game time for next Saturday's SAA Quarterfinal matchup has not been announced yet. Centre defeated the Panthers 3-2 on Oct. 7.
