Transy shuts out Centre men’s soccer in midweek clash
Shots (on goal)
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Centre men's soccer suffered its second consecutive 2-0 defeat Thursday night, this one at the hands of in-state rival Transylvania on the road at Pat Deacon Stadium.
The Colonels fall to 3-3 overall – including an 0-2 away mark – while the host Pioneers advance to a perfect 5-0.
The two sides battled to a scoreless draw after the opening 45 minutes of action, and it took until the 58th minute until the match saw its first goal.
Transy's Charlie Wend broke the scoring seal with a goal off of Jason Murillo's assist, making it 1-0.
The Pioneers netted their insurance goal in the 78th minute, pushing the lead to 2-0 on Riley Calhoon's score.
Centre got off just 11 shots to Transy's 16, but the two teams each had six shots on goal. Bailey Spade (Frankfort, Ky.) came up with four saves for the Colonels.
The Colonels' six shots on target came from six different players, but senior Harrison Dunn (Lexington, Ky.) and freshman Nathan Wilcox (Greenville, S.C.) each led the attack with three shots overall.
Centre returns to the friendly confines of Amend Field this weekend, but will face stiff competition in DePauw. The Tigers ended the Colonels' 2016 season in the NCAA Tournament.
Kick is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET Saturday evening.
