Shots (on goal)
DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre men's soccer broke a two-match skid with a thrilling 4-0 victory Saturday against DePauw at Amend Field.
The Colonels improve to 4-3 overall with the win, dropping the Tigers to 2-2-1 overall.
After being held scoreless for two consecutive matches, the Centre attack flourished under the lights Saturday evening, as three second-half goals turned a closely contested game into a rout for the home side.
Shortly after the teams took to the pitch in the second half, junior Alexander Garuba (Atlanta, Ga.) netted his second goal of the season off a header from senior Ian Williams (Versailles, Ky.), making it 2-0.
Just six minutes later, junior Jacob Haddad (Brentwood, Tenn.) bent in his co-team-leading third of the season, cutting the Tigers' hopes even more.
The rout officially on, freshman Nathan Wilcox (Greenville, S.C.) added his second tally of his rookie campaign to push the lead up to 4-0. Senior Noah Wesley-Chavalier (Cincinnati, Ohio) assisted the goal.
The two sides were nearly even in shots, corners and saves, but Centre placed seven of its 11 total shots on goal compared to just three of 10 from the visiting Tigers.
Junior Bailey Spade (Frankfort, Ky.) saved all three shots sent his way, turning in his third clean sheet of the season.
The Colonels hit the road and open Southern Athletic Association action next Friday, traveling to face Oglethorpe for a 7 p.m. ET kick.
