Centre Men Cap Regular Season with 9-0 Shutout Win over Hendrix

DANVILLE, Ky. (CentreColonels.com) – The Centre men's tennis team celebrated senior day with a 9-0 shutout victory over visiting Hendrix in a Southern Athletic Association (SAA) matchup on Saturday morning at the Centre Tennis Courts.

Seniors Logan Henize (Cincinnati, Ohio), Luke Brooks (Pineville, Ky.) and Caleb Smith (Morristown, Tenn.) made the most of their last home match, combining for a 5-0 record on the day.

 Henize won in straight sets at the top singles slot after earning an 8-5 triumph in doubles play with freshman Trey Akmon (Louisville, Ky.).

Brooks collected a 7-6(3), 6-3 victory at No. 4 singles to go with a 9-7 win at No. 2 doubles with teammate Matthew Ko (Nicholasville, Ky.).

Smith picked up another win in singles play at the No. 5 position by way of a 6-0, 6-1 triumph.

In addition, freshman Max Middleton (Atlanta, Ga.), Akmon and sophomore Ben Hadlock (Okemos, Mich.) each earned singles wins for Centre, while the duo of Middleton and classmate Adam Slone (Lexington, Ky.) was victorious at No. 3 doubles by a score of 8-4. 

The Colonels open the SAA Tournament on Friday, April 21 at noon CT against No. 2 seed Millsaps. The 2017 SAA Tournament is set to take place at Burns Park in North Little Rock, Ark. from April 21-23.
