Rhodes defeats men's tennis squad, 5-1
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Centre men's tennis dropped a 5-1 Southern Athletic Association decision Saturday against Rhodes under chilly conditions at the Dunavant Tennis Complex.
The Colonels (4-10, 0-4 SAA) captured just one point against the host Lynx (12-5, 4-0), a squad ranked 11th in the Atlantic South Region in the latest Oracle/ITA Regional Rankings.
Rhodes took doubles Nos. 1 and 2 by identical 8-4 scores before the Centre No. 3 pair of Max Middleton (Atlanta) and Ben Hadlock (Okemos, Mich.) won a close 8-6 match against Rhodes' Wesley Tolsdorf and Sairam Gudiseva.
The Lynx claimed the first three singles bouts to clinch the overall victory.
Centre freshman Arpit Maini (Spartanburg, S.C.) hung tough with regionally-ranked Ritwik Chatterjee at No. 1 singles, but ultimately fell 6-4, 6-2.
The Colonels continue their extended road swing tomorrow (Sunday), meeting Hendrix at 9 a.m. ET.
