Centre Men’s Track Finishes Fifth at Twilight Meet
DANVILLE, Ky. (CentreColonels.com) – The Centre men's track and field team had its final regular season meet of the year as it hosted ten other teams at the Centre Twilight Meet. The Colonels scored 74 points at the meet and finished in fifth place.
Centre was the highest scoring Division III team in the field, finishing behind Campbellsville, Berea, Union and Eastern Kentucky.
The first points of the meet for Centre came in the 1500m as senior Alex Stickney finished in eighth place with a time of 4:11.31. In the 800m, freshman and fellow cross country runner Collin Wells (Louisville, Ky.) finished fifth overall with a time of 1:56.09.
Moving onto the 110m hurdles, freshman Henry Gunner (Elma, N.Y.) crossed the finish line in 16.01, good for a fifth place finish. In the 400m hurdles, freshman Thomas Burkey (Greenville, Tenn.) placed seventh with a time of 58.39.
Sophomore sprinter Rhoman James (Lexington, Ky.) had another excellent day in his signature events. James finished third in the 100m with a time of 11.06, and then followed it up with a fifth place time of 22.29 in the 200m. In the 4x400m relay, the Centre squad of Wells, James, Burkey and junior Tristen Morrow (Danville, Ky.) placed fourth with a time of 3.33.31.
In the throwing events, junior Bryce Whitman (Franklin, Tenn.) picked up the first event win of his collegiate career when he took first place in the discus with a throw of 138-09. Whitman also threw 43-01.75 in the shot put for third place and 134-07 in the hammer for sixth place and 19 total points for the Colonels. Sophomore Hunter Gann (Bowling Green, Ky.) finished fifth in the hammer, covering 141-00 with his throw. Sophomore William Blackford (Louisville, Ky.) posted a sixth place finish in the javelin with a throw of 138-03.
In addition to his javelin throw, Blackford also scored for the Colonels in the long jump, jumping an even 21 feet for a fourth place finish. Sophomore Caleb Vanorio (Falmouth, Ky.) posted an eighth place finish in the triple jump, covering 39-06.50. In the high jump, Thomas Burkey finished seventh overall with a clear of 5-10.00. Finally, in the pole vault, senior Stephen Orr (Murray, Ky.) finished second after clearing 13-05.25. Junior Bryce Marshall (Danville, Ky.) finished third in the same event with a clear of 9-06.25.
The next meet for the Centre men's track and field team will be the Southern Athletic Association Championships at Berry on Apr. 21-22.
