Men's track finishes seventh at DePauw Indoor Invite

GREENCASTLE, Ind. - The Centre men's track and field team began its 2018 season at the DePauw Indoor Invite, the first of two indoor meets in which the Colonels will compete at DePauw this week. Competing with a partial squad as always during indoor competition, Centre finished seventh out of 14 teams in the field and scored 45 points in the meet.

In the 60m dash, senior Tristen Morrow (Danville, Ky.) put up the fastest time for the Colonels, finishing fifth in 7.25 seconds and just edging teammate Rhoman James (Lexington, Ky.), who finished in seventh with a time of 7.28.

A pair of Centre freshmen impressed in their collegiate debuts in the 60m hurdles as Patrick Gago (Cookeville, Tenn.) placed fifth with a time of 8.95, while teammate Thomas Jordan (Birmingham, Ala.) finished right behind in sixth with a time of 8.97. The 4x200m relay squad also had an impressive early showing, placing fifth overall with a time of 1:36.46.

In the high jump, Patrick Gago and sophomore Thomas Burkey (Greeneville, Tenn.) tied for sixth place in the high jump, each clearing 5-10.00, with Burkey getting the nod on the scoreboard due to fewer fouls on the attempts.

Junior William Blackford (Louisville, Ky.) finished second overall in the long jump with a mark of 20-03.00, with Thomas Jordan finishing fourth in the same event after clearing 19-06.75. Blackford had an even better day in the triple jump, picking up the victory for the Colonels after clearing 42-00.75, an eight-inch margin over the second place finisher.

The Colonels will return to Greencastle on Feb. 17 to take part in the DePauw Indoor Classic.
