Centre Men Finish Second at BC/CC Cross Country Jamboree
BEREA, Ky. – After the remnants of Hurricane Harvey pushed the season opener back by a week, the Centre men's cross country team finally got its 2017 season under way and came away with a second place finish.
Centre finished with 34 points in the opening meet of the year, 13 points behind first place Berea as the Colonels and Mountaineers were the only schools represented in the individual top ten. Asbury finished in third place with 98 points.
Individually, the top time of the day for the Colonels belonged to senior Nathan Riggs (Campbellsville, Ky.), who got his final cross country campaign off to a fine start with a time of 15:46.65, finishing third overall. Finishing right behind Riggs was freshman Andrew Edwards (Louisville, Ky.), who had an excellent opening collegiate meet with a time of 16:16.90 on the 5k course.
The rest of Centre's scoring runners posted an 8-9-10 individual finish. Sophomore Evan Miller (Worthington, Ohio) finished eighth at 16:25.99, followed by junior Keenan Jones (Frankfort, Ky.) at 16:33.80 and freshman Ben Hodges (16:37.80) to round out the scoring times for the Colonels. Sophomore Matthew Gray (Fort Thomas, Ky.) and freshman David McGrade (New Orleans, La.) just missed out on the individual top ten with respective times of 16:40.08 and 16:41.60.
The Colonels will return to Berea for their next meet as they will participate in the Berea Invitational on Sept. 16.
