@CentreCSoftball Earns Doubleheader Sweep of Adrian

DANVILLE, Ky. (CentreColonels.com) - The Centre softball team collected its second doubleheader sweep in as many days, topping foe Adrian (2-8) on Thursday night at the South Campus Field, taking game one 8-0 in five frames before winning in walk-off fashion in game two by a score of 5-4.

The Colonels' (7-7) second straight sweep marks Centre's first back-to-back sweep of two different opponents since 2013.

Game One: Centre 8, Adrian 0

The game remained scoreless through the first three innings, when freshman third baseman Sarah Aubuchon (Lebanon, Tenn.) belted a two-run triple to right field before scoring on a throwing error by the Bulldogs.

The Colonels followed the three-run fourth frame with a five-run fifth inning. With the bases loaded, Aubuchon smashed a bases-clearing single before advancing to third on an error. A Lauren Richards (Danville, Ky.) single would score Aubuchon to cap the 8-0 victory for the Colonels.

Centre starting pitcher Erika Brewer (Frenchburg, Ky.) went five innings, allowing just one hit while fanning five in the triumph for the Colonels.

Downing went 3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored, while Aubuchon was 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBI.

Game two: Centre 5, Adrian 4

Facing a 3-0 deficit in the bottom half of the fifth, the Colonels recorded their first base hit of the game when freshman catcher Charlotte Mabbs (Olivette, Mo.) hit a leadoff single before advancing to third base on a wild pitch.

Aubuchon would pick up where she left off in game one, hitting a run-scoring double to center field before scoring on a Torey Hawkins (Frankfort, Ky.) single.

Junior Erica Arbuckle (Carmel, Ind.) would enter the contest to pinch run for Hawkins, advancing to second on a single up the middle by senior Brittany Sears (Lexington, Ky.). Stephens plated both Arbuckle and Sears with a two-run double to put Centre on top 4-3.

Adrian would tie things up in the top half of the seventh when Bryanna Collins doubled to center field to score Phoebe Cole.

In the bottom half of the frame, Sears ripped a walk-off double to score junior Madison DeBord (Danville, Ky.) and give the Colonels the doubleheader sweep.

Senior Elysse Petrie (Danville, Ky.) went the distance for the Colonels, giving up four runs on eight hits to go with six strikeouts to pick up her second win of the season.

Sears finished 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Stephens went 1-for-2 with a a double, two RBI and a walk.

The Colonels return to action Sunday, March 12 for a double header against Manchester starting at 1:00 p.m. ET.
