@CentreCSoftball Drops Non-Conference Matchup to Transylvania
DANVILLE, Ky. (CentreColonels.com) - The Centre softball team fell to local rival Transylvania Thursday night 13-3 in a non-conference action at the South Campus Field. The Colonels and Pioneers were slated to complete a doubleheader, but the nightcap was called in the top of the fourth due to inclement weather with Transylvania leading 6-4. No makeup date has been announced at this time.
Centre returns to conference play this Saturday, April 1 with a doubleheader against Sewanee starting at 12:00pm ET.
Game One: Transylvania 13, Centre 3 (5 innings)
Transylvania used a pair of five-run innings and three home runs in the contest to top the Colonels in game one.
Centre pulled within three in bottom half of the first when freshman third baseman Sarah Aubuchon (Lebanon, Tenn.) and Charlotte Mabbs (Olivette, Mo.) would both hit bases-loaded singles to plate two runs.
However, The Pioneers would respond in the second inning with a solo home run and again in the third with a sacrifice fly to push the lead to 7-2.
The Colonels got one more in the bottom half of the third when junior second baseman Ellen Stephens (Louisville, Ky.) scored on an illegal pitch after she led off the inning with a single.
The Pioneers would use another five run fourth to extend the lead to 12-2 after a bases loaded double cleared the bases.
Senior pitcher Jessika Young (Leitchfield, Ky.) went 3-for-3 at the plate scoring a run while Aubuchon was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI for the Colonels.
