Softball falls in regular season finale to No. 7 Berry

DANVILLE, Ky. – After a quick turnaround from Friday night's doubleheader, the Colonels dropped a 14-3 series finale Saturday morning against seventh-ranked Berry.

Centre closes the regular season 17-16 overall and 9-9 in the Southern Athletic Association, and will be either the three- or four-seed in the upcoming conference tournament. The Vikings cap their regular season 33-4 overall and 16-1 in-conference.

Berry capitalized on some Centre miscues to score two unearned in the top of the first and open the scoring.

Sarah Fly (Franklin, Tenn.) had an answer in the bottom of the frame, driving in Cassidy Cook (Louisville, Ky.) with a single to deep right-center, making it 2-1.

The Vikings added a pair of runs in the second and third, taking a 6-1 lead after a two-run homer from Katlin Seger.

Berry's offensive prowess was evident once again in the fourth, scoring six runs while smacking a couple more homeruns.

Centre would score two in the bottom of the fifth on Cook's two-RBI single to left, bringing home Ellen Stephens (Louisville, Ky.) and Sam Thompson (Louisville, Ky.).

Cook went 2-for-3 at the plate as the designated player, and Stephens finished 2-for-2.

The Colonels will travel to Chattanooga, Tenn., next weekend for the SAA Tournament. Stay tuned for matchups and game times.
