Swim teams lose to Washington & Lee in season opener
The Centre swim teams began their 2013-14 season in Lexington, Va. with a trip to Washington & Lee. The Colonels fell to the Generals in both men's and women's competition, with the men losing 153.5-108.5 and the women losing 161-101.
On the men's side, the Colonels picked up a pair of wins in relays. Juniors John Kelley (Cincinnati, Ohio), Wes McCrary (Winchester, Ky.) and Jess Pritchett (Louisville, Ky.) teamed with senior James Leary (Atlanta, Ga.) to win the 400-yard freestyle relay. Kelley, McCrary and Pritchett were also part of Centre's second winning relay team, teaming with junior Spencer Vetter (Lexington, S.C.) to win the 200-yard medley relay.
In individual events, Spencer Vetter was Centre's lone double winner on the men's side, taking first place in the breaststroke at both 100-yard and 200-yard distances. Wes McCrary and Jess Pritchett finished first and second in the 50-yard freestyle. The final individual win on the men's side came from freshman Ross Wilson (Lexington, Ky.), who finished first in the 200-yard butterfly.
The Centre women had one victory in relay competition, as the team of seniors Maddie Mescher (Fort Thomas, Ky.) and Clark Weber (Louisville, Ky.), junior Hadley Judson (Atlanta, Ga.) and freshman Ginger Hall (Louisville, Ky.) took first place in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
In individual events on the women's side, Ginger Hall took first place in both breaststroke events, winning at 100-yard and 200-yard distances. Junior Danielle Wahl (Colorado Springs, Colo.) finished first in the 1000-yard freestyle, while sophomore Kristen Holliday (Newark, Del.) won the 200-yard butterfly. Sophomore Kirsten Larson (Taylor Mill, Ky.) rounded out the individual victories for Centre with a win in the 50-yard freestyle.
The next event for the Centre swim teams will be a meet at Sewanee on October 17th.
