Colonels split vs. BSC in dual meet
The Centre swim teams were back in action in Birmingham, Ala. as they took on Birmingham Southern and the women's team also faced West Florida in a dual meet.
On the women's side, West Florida defeated both Centre and Birmingham Southern by wide margins and picked up wins in nearly every women's event. In events where the Colonels and Panthers scored head to head, BSC picked up a close 104-100 victory.
There was one individual victory for the Colonels on the women's side as junior Danielle Wahl (Colorado Springs, Colo.) continued her string of strong performances in the 1000-yard freestyle, taking first place with a time of 10:53.
The Centre men picked up their first victory of the season with a 122-107 win over Birmingham Southern. In relay competition, the team of senior James Leary (Atlanta, Ga.), juniors Wes McCrary (Winchester, Ky.) and Jess Pritchett (Louisville, Ky.) and freshman Patrick Wells (Louisville, Ky.) took first place in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
In individual events, junior John Kelley (Cincinnati, Ohio) was a double winner, taking first place in both the 100-yard backstroke and 400-yard individual medley. Other individual winners included freshman Ross Wilson (Lexington, Ky.) in the 100-yard butterfly and Wes McCrary in the 50-yard freestyle. With such a close margin, the Colonels were aided by some 1-2 finishes, as Jess Pritchett finished second in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly and Ross Wilson finished second in the 400-yard individual medley.
The next meet for the Colonels will be the home opener against Berry on October 26th.
