Centre swim teams take 3 of 4 at Rhodes dual meet
The Centre swim teams headed to Memphis, Tenn. to compete in an SAA dual meet against the Hendrix Warriors and host Rhodes Lynx. The Colonels came away with three out of a possible four wins, with the men's team getting a sweep and the women's team splitting, beating Hendrix while losing to Rhodes.
On the men's side, the Colonels defeated Rhodes 203-50 and beat Hendrix by a score of 207-37. It began and ended with relays as Centre won both relay competitions in the met. The team of seniors John Kelley (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Spencer Vetter (Lexington, S.C.) and freshmen Noah Martin (Spartanburg, S.C.) and Logan Oatman (Paducah, Ky.) finished first in the 400-yard medley relay. John Kelley and Noah Martin were also part of the first place 200-yard freestyle relay team that also included seniors Jack Buchanan (Orono, Minn.) and Nate Deaton (Danville, Ky.).
The Centre men had several multiple event winners at today's meet. John Kelley finished first in both the 100-yard breaststroke and 100-yard freestyle. Spencer Vetter won both the 200-yard breaststroke and 100-yard butterfly. Logan Oatman finished first in both backstroke events, winning at 100 and 200 yards.
In other events, Noah Martin took first place in the 200-yard butterfly. Seniors Jess Pritchett (Louisville, Ky.) and John Ruble (Bagdad, Ky.) each picked up wins, with Pritchett winning the 50-yard freestyle and Ruble winning the 500-yard freestyle. Junior John Coogan (Nashville, Tenn.) won the 1,000-yard freestyle, while freshman Bradley Baker (Paducah, Ky.) picked up his first collegiate win in the 400-yard individual medley.
On the women's side, Centre defeated Hendrix 205-45 and lost to Rhodes by the slim margin of 135-127. The Colonels emerged victorious in one relay event as the team of seniors Hadley Judson (Atlanta, Ga.) and Danielle Wahl (Colorado Springs, Colo.), junior Kirsten Larson (Taylor Mill, Ky.) and freshman Cameron Beach (Greenville, S.C.) finished first in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
In individual events, Centre had a pair of multiple event winners. Junior Kristen Holliday (Newark, Del.) won three events, taking first place in the 200-yard butterfly, 200-yard backstroke and 400-yard individual medley. Danielle Wahl was Centre's other multiple individual event winner, finishing first in both the 1,000-yard and 500-yard freestyle.
Rounding out the women's individual event wins for the Colonels, Hadley Judson won the 100-yard freestyle and Cameron Beach finished first in the 50-yard freestyle.
The next meet for the Centre swim teams will be the team's annual trip to Indianapolis, Ind. to compete in the House of Champions Meet on Nov. 21st-23rd.
