Centre’s Hayhurst wins 1m Regional diving championship, qualifies for Nationals
After finishing just 15 points shy of qualifying for the NCAA women's diving competition on Friday at the 3m board, Centre freshman Sarah Hayhurst (Newburgh, Ind.) took first on the 1m board at this weekend's Regional diving championships in San Antonio, Texas.
Hayhurst, the SAA Women's Diver of the year, picked up her tenth victory of the 2014-15 season in the 1m board at Regionals, scoring a combined total of 464.60 points across 11 dives in winning the competition and earning an automatic qualifying bid into the NCAA Finals.
In winning the regional competition, Hayhurst was also able to set a new Centre women's diving program record in the process. Hayhurst left no doubt of her place in the National Finals on Saturday after finishing in third place in the 3m regional dive on Friday.
This year's NCAA Swimming and Diving National Finals will be held in Shenandoah, Texas from Mar. 17th-21st.
