Colonels Fall in SAA Opener at Birmingham Southern

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (CentreAthletics.com) – The Centre swimming and diving teams dropped their Southern Athletic Association dual meet openers on Friday night to host Birmingham Southern. The Panther men topped the Colonels 158-64, while the Birmingham Southern women earned a 145-85 victory over Centre.

On the women's side, sophomores Cameron Beach (Greenville, S.C.) and Sarah Hayhurst (Newburgh, Ind.) earned two individuals wins apiece for the visiting Colonels.

Beach finished first in the 50 free with a time of 24:96, before pacing the 100 free in 54.98.

Hayhurst captured titles in the 1-meter and 3-meter dives with marks of  251.40 and 295.65, respectively. Hayhurst's 3m diving score earned an NCAA cut.

Senior Kristen Holliday (Newark, Del.) also earned a first place finish for Centre, winning the 500 free with a time of 5:25.34.

On the men's side, sophomore Noah Martin (Spartanburg, S.C.) earned a win in the 100 Fly with a 53.56 mark, while classmate Bradley Baker (Paducah, Ky.) paced the 500 Free at 5:11.27.

Martin and Baker, along with senior  John Coogan (Nashville, Tenn.) and freshman Mitchell Collins (Richmond, Ky.) won the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:32.21.

Centre is right back in action tomorrow in another SAA dual meet at Sewanee. The contest is slated to begin at 10 a.m. CT.
