Centre Swim Teams Sweep Transy

LEXINGTON, Ky. ( – The Centre swimming and diving teams picked up their first head-to-head sweep of the young season as they defeated the Transylvania Pioneers on Friday night. The men's team picked up its first win of the year by a score of 120-68, while the women's team won its second head-to-head meet in a row by a score of 122.5-105.5.

On the men's side, the Colonels picked up a pair of wins in relays. The team of senior John Coogan (Nashville, Tenn.), sophomores Bradley Baker (Paducah, Ky.) and Noah Martin (Spartanburg, S.C.), and freshman Mitchell Collins (Richmond, Ky.) took first place in the 400-yard medley relay. In the 400-yard freestyle relay, the all-freshmen team of Trey Brown (Naples, Fla.), Stephen Cosco (Cincinnati, Ohio), Evan Doyle (Louisville, Ky.) and Tyler Stevenson (Franklin, N.C.) came away with the win.

In individual events, the Centre men had a pair of multiple event winners. John Coogan took first place in the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke. Mitchell Collins, who was named's Southern Athletic Association Men's Swimmer of the Week during Centre's last weekend of meets, won both the 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard breaststroke.

Other individual event winners included Tyler Stevenson, whose win in the 1000-yard freestyle was the first win by a Centre swimmer in that event this season. Bradley Baker added a win in the 400-yard individual medley, while Noah Martin took first place in one of his specialty events, the 100-yard butterfly.

The Centre women picked up one win in relay competition as the team of seniors Taylor Harrison (Austin, Texas), Kristen Holliday (Newark, Del.) and Kirsten Larson (Taylor Mill, Ky.), and sophomore Cameron Beach (Greenville, S.C.) finished first in the 400-yard freestyle relay.

All of Centre's individual event winners on the women's side won multiple events. Two-time SAA Women's Swimmer of the Week Cameron Beach once again had an excellent meet of sprints, taking first place in both the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle. Kristen Holliday continued her solid start to the season with another pair of wins, finishing first place in the 100-yard butterfly as well as the 400-yard individual medley.

Sophomore Sarah Hayhurst (Newburgh, Ind.) continued her 2015-16 win streak, taking first place in both the 1m and 3m diving competitions.

The Colonels will once again have a short time to rest up as they will be back in action on Saturday night. Centre's second meet in as many nights will be against the Franklin Grizzlies at Boles Natatorium at 7:00 PM.
