Colonels Drop Swim Meet against Franklin

DANVILLE, Ky. ( – Competing in their second meet in 24 hours, the Centre swimming and diving teams were unable to match the success of their Friday meet against Transylvania as they fell at home to the Franklin Grizzlies. The men's team lost 173-56, while the women's team fell by a score of 138-98.

Individual event wins were difficult to come by for Centre on the men's side. Sophomore Noah Martin (Spartanburg, S.C.) once again demonstrated why he is one of the top swimmers in the region in the butterfly as he took first place in the 200-yard fly with a time of 2:03.06. Martin's time was over seven seconds faster than the second best time at the meet.

Freshman Mitchell Collins (Richmond, Ky.) picked up another win for the Colonels when he took first place in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:18.39, nearly three seconds faster than the second place time. Collins has won at least one individual event in each of the Colonels' meets thus far this season.

The women's team had three multiple event winners. Sophomore Cameron Beach (Greenville, S.C.) picked up where she left off on Friday against Transylvania, once again winning the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle events. Saturday marked the third consecutive meet in which Beach has won both of these events.

Senior Kristen Holliday (Newark, Del.) also picked up a pair of wins for Centre, taking first place in both the 200-yard butterfly and the 200-yard individual medley. Holliday's winning 200-yard fly time of 2:11.72 was almost a full 15 seconds faster than the second place time.

Sophomore Sarah Hayhurst (Newburgh, Ind.) remained perfect on the season in diving events as she won both competitions against Franklin on Saturday. Hayhurst scored 246 points in the finals on the 1m board.

The next meet for the Centre swim teams will be the annual House of Champions meet in Indianapolis, Ind., to be held on Nov. 20-22.
