Centre Swimmers Finish 2015 at House of Champions Meet

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. ( – The Centre swim teams wrapped up the 2015 section of their schedule with the third and final day of the House of Champions Meet, hosted by IUPUI. Competing as the only Division III program in the field, both the men's and women's teams finished in ninth, but a remarkable 93% of swims across the three-day meet were seasonal best times.

On the men's side, sophomore Noah Martin (Spartanburg, S.C.) had an excellent House of Champions Meet in his specialty event, going 51:12 in the 100-yard butterfly and 1:56.85 in the 200-yard fly.

Freshman Mitchell Collins (Richmond, Ky.) continued his strong first season as a Colonel with times of 1:01.86 in the 100-yard breaststroke and 2:16.32 in the 200-yard breaststroke. Collins also posted a time of 48:91 in his leg of Centre's 400-yard freestyle relay squad.

Sophomore Bradley Baker (Jacksonville, Fla.) had a pair of standout performances for Centre, completing the 400-yard individual medley in 4:32.95 while also going 17:23.29 in the mile freestyle.

Freshman Trey Brown (Naples, Fla.) had two excellent sprints for the Colonels, finishing the 50-yard freestyle in 22.78 and the 100-yard freestyle in 50.12.

The Centre women also had their fair share of standout performances at the House of Champions. Senior Kristen Holliday (Newark, Del.) posted a time of 2:07.32 in the 200-yard butterfly to finish third overall in the event and earn an NCAA B cut. Holliday earned another NCAA B cut in the 400-yard individual medley, finishing in 4:38.02, also good enough for third overall. Holliday also posted a time of 2:09.35 in the 200-yard individual medley.

Senior Kirsten Larson (Taylor Mill, Ky.) posted a new lifetime best time in the 100-yard freestyle, finishing in 55.49. It was the first lifetime best time for Larson in this event in five years.

Senior Dana Reynolds (Bowling Green, Ky.) posted seasonal best times of 18:45.21 in the mile freestyle, 5:31.10 in the 500-yard freestyle and 4.51.62 in the 400-yard individual medley, good for ninth overall in that event.

Sophomore Cameron Beach (Greenville, S.C.) showed why she is one of the top sprinters in the Southern Athletic Association with times of 23:97 in the 50-yard freestyle, 53.44 in the 100-yard freestyle 1:00.05 in the 100-yard butterfly. Beach's time in the 50-yard freestyle was good enough for sixth place overall.

Freshman Jacquelyn Engel (Lexington, Ky.) had a pair of strong swims for Centre in the breaststroke, finishing the 100-yard race in 1:09.56 to win the meet's C final and posting a time of 2:41.26 in the 200-yard event.

In the 400-yard freestyle relay, senior Taylor Harrison (Austin, Texas) had an excellent anchor leg of the race, posting a time of 56:80.

Sophomore Sarah Hayhurst (Newburgh, Ind.) continued her outstanding season in diving, placing sixth in the 1m competition and fifth on the 1m board.

"This is the kind of breakout performance that I was waiting for from this team," said head coach Dean Brownley. "It is great to go into Thanksgiving break with this kind of success. We are looking forward to carrying some of this momentum through the break and to get us started on the second half of our season. I am very proud of this team and what we accomplished this weekend."

The 2016 portion of the Centre swimming and diving schedule will begin with the Colonel Classic on Jan. 8-9 at Boles Natatorium.
