Colonels Drop Swim Meet at Wittenberg

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio. ( – The Centre swimming and diving teams competed in their final road meet of the regular season, facing the Wittenberg Tigers in a head-to-head contest. The Colonels fell to the Tigers by scores of 143-98 on the men's side and 155-62 on the women's side, with Wittenberg's depth proving to be the difference.

The Centre men picked up one victory in relay competition. The Colonels' young 200-yard medley relay squad, consisting of sophomores Noah Martin (Spartanburg, S.C.) and Logan Oatman (Paducah, Ky.), and freshmen Mitchell Collins (Richmond, Ky.) and Evan Doyle (Louisville, Ky.), posted a winning time of 1:40.69.

Oatman and Martin continued their winning ways into the individual events, with Oatman taking first in both the 200-yard freestyle and 200-yard backstroke, and Martin contributing yet another win in the 200-yard butterfly.

The other individual event win for the Colonels on the men's side came courtesy of sophomore Bradley Baker (Jacksonville, Fla.), who took first place in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:19.98.

On the women's side, sophomore Cameron Beach, who last week took home her fourth Southern Athletic Association Women's Swimmer of the Week Award, continued her fantastic season in the sprint events, taking first place in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25:16.

There was also a pair of individual event winners for the Centre women. Senior Kristen Holliday (Newark, Del.) picked up two wins on the day, finishing first in a pair of her signature events, the 200-yard individual medley and 200-yard butterfly. Holliday won the IM in 2:16.64 and took first in the 200-yard fly with a time of 2:12.84.

Sophomore Sarah Hayhurst (Newburgh, Ind.) also won two events for the Colonels, sweeping both diving events. Her score of 278.05 points in the 1m diving competition set a Wittenberg pool record.

The next meet for the Centre swim teams will be on Friday, Jan. 29. They will face Asbury on Senior Night at Boles Natatorium for their regular season finale.
