Hayhurst Finishes Third in Regional 3m Diving Competition
GRINNELL, Iowa (CentreColonels.com) - Less than 24 hours removed from securing a berth in the NCAA National Diving Championships with a Regional title on the 1m board, Centre's Sarah Hayhurst (Newburgh, Ind.) competed in the Regional finals in the 3m competition, taking third place.
Competing with a set of dives considered to be the highest degree of difficulty by the judges in the regional meet, Hayhurst finished with a total of 456.30 points to finish third behind Danielle Freund and Sarah Kate Mrkonich of Trinity (Texas).
In total, Hayhurst finished with 903.60 points across the two competitions, the most of any women's diver in the 14-person field.
The next meet for Sarah Hayhurst will be the final meet of her sophomore season as she takes part in the NCAA National Diving Championships in Greensboro, N.C. on Mar. 16-19. In 2015 Hayhurst earned All-American status as a freshman with a fourth place finish in the 3m competition, Centre's first All-America honors in women's diving since Centre Athletics Hall of Famer Diane Skellenger in 1987.
