Colonels Rout Transylvania in Dual Meet

DANVILLE, Ky. ( – The Centre swimming and diving teams opened up their home schedule by welcoming the rival Transylvania Pioneers to Boles Natatorium for a Friday evening dual meet. The Colonels dominated the Pioneers, winning 147-71 on the women's side and 153-32 on the men's side.

 The Centre women began and ended the meet with wins in relays. Sophomore Jacquelyn Engel (Lexington, Ky.) teamed with freshmen Amelia Blankenbeker (Jeffersonville, Ind.), Chloe Grove (Bucyrus, Ohio) and Maddie Huber (Fort Thomas, Ky.) to open the scoring for the Colonels with a win in the 200-yard medley relay. In the final women's race of the evening, senior Giuliana D'Adamio (Bowling Green, Ky.) combined with freshmen Annie Holmes (Louisville, Ky.), Allison Riley (Hendersonville, Tenn.) and Megan Wilson (Murray, Ky.) to win the 200-yard freestyle relay.

In between the relays, eight different Colonels won individual events. Relay winners Chloe Grove, Annie Holmes and Maddie Huber were all individual winners as well, as Grove won the 200-yard freestyle, Holmes finished first in the 100-yard freestyle and Huber earned a victory in the 1000-yard freestyle. Centre swept the freestyle races for the meet as freshman Emma May (Asheville, N.C.) won at 50 yards and freshman Catherine Gleason (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) won at 500 yards.

Other individual winners for the Centre women included junior Cameron Beach (Greenville, S.C.) in the 100-yard fly, freshman Lindsay Everett (Paris, Ky.) in the 100-yard backstroke and junior Sarah Hayhurst (Newburgh, Ind.) in the 1m diving competition.

On the men's side, Centre had one of their best team performances of the season with 153 total points. Like the women's team, the Colonels began and ended the meet with relay wins. The all-freshman team of Arthur Ensign-George (Louisville, Ky.), Scott Gupton (Louisville, Ky.), Ethan Lim (Hendersonville, Tenn.) and Wilson Norris (Brentwood, Tenn.) took first place in the 200-yard medley relay. In the 200-yard freestyle, juniors Bradley Baker (Paducah, Ky.) and Noah Martin (Spartanburg, S.C.), sophomore Stephen Cosco (Cincinnati, Ohio) and freshman Michael Hambleton (Lake Bluff, Ill.) closed out the meet with a win.

The Colonels also had a trio of multiple individual event winners. Relay winners Michael Hambleton and Noah Martin each won twice as individuals, with Hambleton winning the 200-yard and500-yard freestyles and Martin winning the 100-yard freestyle and 200-yard individual medley. Junior Logan Oatman (Paducah, Ky.) also won twice, taking first place in both the 100-yard butterfly and 1000-yard freestyle.

Other individual winners for the Colonels on the men's side included Wilson Norris in the 50-yard freestyle, Scott Gupton in the 100-yard backstroke and junior Sam Holt (Louisville, Ky.) in the 1m diving competition.

The next meet for the Colonels will be on Nov. 5 when they travel to Indiana for a tri-meet against Franklin and host school Anderson.
