Centre Swim Teams Open House of Champions Meet

INDIANAPOLIS (CentreColonels.com) – The Centre swimming and diving teams completed the first of three days of competition at the House of Champions meet at IUPUI, an event featuring teams representing all divisions. Through 14 events at the House of Champions, the Centre men's team is in 11th place out of 12 teams, while the women's team sits in eighth.

The Colonels scored 63 points on the men's side on Friday. One of the events that saw the Centre men turn in standout performances was the 500-yard freestyle. In that event, freshman Arthur Ensign-George (Louisville, Ky.) posted a time of 4:43.96 while junior Logan Oatman (Paducah, Ky.) finished in 4:46.81.

Junior and reigning Southern Athletic Association Men's Swimmer of the Week Noah Martin (Spartanburg, S.C.) had another excellent 100-yard butterfly, posting a time of 51.67. Martin also had a strong sprint with a time of 22.01 in the 50-yard freestyle.

The Centre women finished with 134.5 points after the Friday heats. Just like on the men's side, the women's 500-yard freestyle was full of excellent swims by freshmen. Maddie Huber (Fort Thomas, Ky.) finished 15th overall with a time of 5:13.51. Fellow freshman Cat Gleason (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) posted a time of 5:14.89. Another Centre freshman, Chloe Grove (Bucyrus, Ohio), completed the 500 freestyle in 5:17.87.

Freshman Annie Holmes (Louisville, Ky.) and senior Cameron Beach (Greenville, S.C.) posted back to back times in the 100-yard butterfly. Holmes finished 14th overall in 58.25 with Beach placing immediately afterwards in 58.36. Beach also had a top ten overall finish in an event, tying for ninth place with a time of 23.88.

The Colonels also got excellent performances on the women's side in the diving competitions, courtesy of junior Sarah Hayhurst (Newburgh, Ind.) and sophomore Sierra Panting (Anchorage, Alaska).

The House of Champions Meet will continue on Saturday.
