Centre Swim Teams Wrap Up Fall Semester at House of Champions

INDIANAPOLIS (CentreColonels.com) – The Centre swimming and diving teams concluded the 2016 portion of their schedule with the last of three days of competition at the House of Champions Meet at IUPUI. With three days of swimming in the books, the men's team finished 12th while the women's team finished eighth.

On the men's side, freshman Arthur Ensign-George (Louisville, Ky.) posted a lifetime best time in the mile freestyle, finishing in 16:33 to nearly set a new program record in the event. Ensign-George's time at 1000 meters was the fastest at that distance in school history.

In the 200-yard backstroke, junior Logan Oatman (Paducah, Ky.) posted a time of 1:50.63 to earn an NCAA B cut. Oatman's time in the event ranks him third in the nation by CollegeSwimming.com. In the same event freshman Scott Gupton (Louisville, Ky.) had a lifetime best swim on Sunday, finishing in 2:06.85.

Junior Noah Martin (Spartanburg, S.C.) and freshman Wilson Norris (Brentwood, Tenn.) performed well in the 200-yard butterfly, with Martin posting a time of 1:54.31 and Norris finishing in 1:59.69. The 400-yard freestyle relay of Logan Oatman, Noah Martin, Arthur Ensign-George and sophomore Evan Doyle (Louisville, Ky.) posted a seasonal best time as Centre finished with 206 points across the entire meet.

The Centre women ended the House of Champions with 380.5 total points, finishing as the highest placing Division III team in the meet. Freshmen Chloe Grove (Bucyrus, Ohio) and Cat Gleason (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) and senior Giuliana D'Adamio (Bowling Green, Ky.) all posted seasonal best times in the mile freestyle.

In the 200-yard backstroke, freshmen Lindsay Everett (Paris, Ky.) and Emma May (Asheville, N.C.) both swam well as Everett finished in 2:15.52 and May posting a time of 2:17.32. In the 100-yard freestyle, freshman Annie Holmes (Louisville, Ky.) advanced to the finals with a time of 53:70. She was joined in the finals by junior Cameron Beach (Greenville, S.C.), who finished in 54.35. Just like on the men's side, the women's 400-yard freestyle relay squad posted a seasonal best time as freshmen Amelia Blankenbeker (Jeffersonville, Ind.) and Maddie Huber (Fort Thomas, Ky.) joined Annie Holmes and Cameron Beach to finish in 3:36.95.

The Colonels also had an outstanding meet in diving on the women's side. Junior Sarah Hayhurst (Newburgh, Ind.) finished fifth at three meters and sixth at one meter, while sophomore Sierra Panting (Anchorage, Alaska) finished sixth at three meters and ninth on the one-meter board.

The Centre swimming and diving teams will return to action on Jan. 6, 2017 with the first of two days at the Colonel Classic at Boles Natatorium.
