Three Conference Titles | 20 All-Americans | One Individual National Champion
Oatman, Hayhurst Set for NCAA Championships
DANVILLE, Ky. (CentreColonels.com) - The 2016-17 Centre swimming and diving regular season is over and head coach Dean Brownley will send a pair of athletes into the postseason with juniors Logan Oatman (Paducah, Ky.) and Sarah Hayhurst (Newburgh, Ind.) earning NCAA Invites.
2016-17 marks the first appearance for Logan Oatman in the NCAA Championships. At last week's last chance meet at Indiana University, Oatman set a school record in the 200-yard backstroke, posting a time of 1:49.08 to currently rank tenth in the nation in that event.
Oatman will be the first Centre men's swimmer to compete at the NCAA Championships since Centre Athletics Hall of Famer John Oldham in 1996.
Sarah Hayhurst will be going to her third consecutive postseason, earning an NCAA Regional Diving invite after an outstanding junior campaign that saw her sweep the Southern Athletic Association diving competition and earn SAA Women's Diver of the Year honors for the third season in a row. Hayhurst will also be looking to become a three-time All-American.
At the Regionals, Hayhurst swept the competition, taking first place on the 1m board for the third consecutive season while also winning her first regional competition on the 3m board.
The 2016-17 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships will take place on Mar. 15-20 in Shenandoah, Texas. Hayhurst will dive on the 15th and the 17th, while Oatman's race will take place on the 18th.
